Grief is Not Linear

We were seated at a table that was practically on top of them. Odd configuration. A young adult woman and her 70-something father. I could tell from their body language and lack of lively conversation it was a routine dinner for them, even though they ordered from the restaurant week menu. They probably don’t live too far from each other and meet up for dinner occasionally after work, as me and my father used to do.
